Apply a Parameterized Template During Activation
You can apply a parameterized template to edge devices during activation.
Additional Details
- While applying a parameterized template during activation of an edge device, you can set the variables that affect devices.
- You are asked to supply variables during the activation request confirmation.
- The template variables are changed using the JSON-path and the variable values, and then sent to the edge device using the existing API.
Step 1: Create a Basic Activation Configuration with Activation Template(s) in Belden Horizon Data Manager
See Step 1-6 of Set Up an Activation Config. For Step 3, select a Parameterized Template.
Step 2: Create an Activation Request in Belden Horizon Data Operations
See Activate an Edge Device.
Step 3: Approve the Activation Request in Belden Horizon Data Manager
See the Approve option of Requests.
Step 4: Set Variables in Belden Horizon Data Manager
Once Approved, the Set Variables dialog box appears. Enter values for the variables in each variable field, and then click Apply.
The Stage Activation icon under Status shows a green check mark, and then the Stage Provision icon under Status shows a green check mark.
The activation for the device is complete.
Step 5: Verifying Template Parameters are Applied to an Edge Device in Belden Horizon Data Operations
There are many types of possible variables. The following verification procedure is an example.
To verify template parameters are applied to an edge device in Belden Horizon Data Operations:
1. From another browser tab, log in to Belden Horizon Data Operations.
2. From the Navigation panel, select DeviceHub. The Edge Devices pane appears.
3. Select the device for which the template was applied and ensure that the variables entered in the Set Variables dialog box appear correctly.
Example: If device_name is a variable, make sure that the name for the device is correct. In this case, PLC1.
